MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Dyna Super Glide

The plain FXD Super Glide entered Harley-Davidson’s Dyna family in the mid-1990s as the base version of the line, carrying the Super Glide name into the new chassis that the company introduced for Dyna models. Harley-Davidson parts and service documentation show the FXD Super Glide in the 1995 Dyna catalog, and it remained part of the lineup for years as the straightforward, traditional-stance Dyna for riders who wanted the classic big-twin look without the more styled trim of the other variants. As the Dyna family developed, Harley added more specialized offshoots such as the Low Rider, Wide Glide, Street Bob, Fat Bob, and Super Glide Custom, while the original FXD stayed the clean, basic expression of the nameplate. Official Harley-Davidson model-code documentation still listed the FXD Super Glide in 2010, but it disappeared from the 2011 Dyna model tables as the range continued to evolve. The broader Dyna family later ended in 2017, yet the original FXD Super Glide itself had already completed its run by then and is remembered as one of the core, no-frills interpretations of Harley-Davidson’s factory-custom cruiser formula.
