This nameplate first appeared in 2018, when Harley-Davidson reshaped its Softail lineup and introduced a Heritage Classic variant fitted with the larger Milwaukee-Eight 114 powertrain. It was positioned as a modern take on Harley’s long-running nostalgia-themed cruiser formula: a bike meant to evoke mid-century styling cues while using the newer Softail chassis and contemporary touring-friendly hardware.
Compared with earlier Heritage Classic versions, the 114-badged model leaned harder into blacked-out or restrained trim and a more performance-oriented street presence, while still keeping the features that defined the line’s appeal: a detachable windshield, lockable hard saddlebags, and a relaxed, long-distance riding posture. That combination made it popular with riders who wanted classic Harley silhouette and practical luggage without moving up to a full touring model.
The nameplate continued through the 2018–2024 model years as part of Harley-Davidson’s Softail family. For 2025 and later, Harley-Davidson shifted the model naming to simply Heritage Classic, with the 114 suffix no longer used. Because of that transition, the Heritage Classic 114 nameplate is best treated as a distinct model run that began with the 2018 Softail redesign and ended after the 2024 model year.
