Triumph added the RS badge to the Street Triple family for the 2017 model year, when the range was comprehensively updated around an all-new 765cc triple engine and the lineup was reorganized into S, R, and RS versions. From the start, the RS sat at the top of the roadster range as the most performance-focused street and track variant, pairing the Street Triple’s compact, lightweight chassis concept with higher-spec hardware and a sharper rider-oriented character. Triumph has described the RS as the flagship of the family and, in later updates, positioned it as the brand’s “ultimate performance street” model.
The nameplate continued without a known production gap and remained part of Triumph’s current Street Triple lineup. A major second-era update arrived for 2019, when the RS was refreshed with more aggressive styling, revised technology, and further improvements to the 765cc triple, reflecting Triumph’s racing involvement and its role as engine supplier to Moto2 from 2019 onward. That update helped cement the RS’s reputation as the most focused version of the Street Triple, aimed at riders who wanted a roadster with genuine track capability but everyday usability.
Unlike the broader Street Triple name, which dates back to 2007, the RS designation itself is a newer chapter in the model’s history. It represents the highest-spec production Street Triple rather than a separate standalone platform, and it has become the benchmark variant within Triumph’s modern middleweight naked-bike family.
