The Story of the Explorer

Triumph introduced this adventure-touring nameplate in 2012 as the Tiger Explorer, a large-capacity, long-distance motorcycle aimed at riders who wanted a road-biased alternative to the more dirt-focused end of the adventure class. It marked an important step for Triumph because it moved the Tiger line into the big-bore, shaft-driven adventure segment with a model positioned for transcontinental travel and everyday usability. In Triumph’s own brand history, the Tiger Explorer is identified as one of the key launches of 2012. In 2017, Triumph updated the family under the Tiger 1200 banner, but the Explorer badge remained part of the lineage and later reappeared on top-spec road-oriented variants. As a result, the model is best understood as a continuous adventure-bike nameplate that evolved rather than being treated as a fully separate, discontinued-and-revived model.
