MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the VFR800 (Interceptor 800)

Honda’s VFR800 nameplate began in 1998 as a new 800cc V4 road sports model positioned as a refined, long-distance sports tourer. It built on the VFR family’s reputation for smooth V4 performance, everyday versatility, and strong real-world handling, and it quickly became one of Honda’s most recognizable sport-touring motorcycles in Europe and North America, where it was also sold as the Interceptor. After that first era, the 800cc VFR disappeared from the lineup and Honda moved to the larger VFR1200F. The nameplate then returned for a second production period in 2014 as the VFR800F, with the Interceptor badge continuing in some markets. That revived model kept the V4 sport-touring identity but adopted updated styling, electronics, and touring comfort features. Honda continued to refine the VFR800F/Interceptor through the 2010s, and production ended in 2022. Because the nameplate had a clear gap between its original run and its later revival, it should be treated as a model with multiple production periods rather than one continuous build history.
