This middleweight V4 sportbike arrived in 1984 as part of Honda’s first wave of Interceptor-branded street motorcycles, filling the gap below the larger VF machines. It carried the same aggressive, fully faired sport-bike look that defined the era’s Interceptor family, but in a lighter and more manageable package aimed at riders who wanted the styling and character of the bigger V4s without their bulk. The model was sold in the North American market and became one of the most recognizable Japanese sport bikes of the mid-1980s.
Its significance comes from timing as much as specification: it appeared during Honda’s early experiment with roadgoing V4 performance motorcycles, a period that helped establish the company’s reputation for advanced layouts, distinctive styling, and premium sport-touring intent. While the larger Interceptors often drew the headlines, this middleweight version earned a loyal following for its balance and approachable size. Production ran through the 1986 model year, after which Honda moved on to newer sportbike directions and the original VF Interceptor lineup faded from showrooms.
