MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the SA50

Introduced for the 1988 model year, this Honda 50cc scooter became the company’s compact urban step-through offering in the U.S. market and was sold over time under different showroom names, including Elite LX, Elite SR, and later Elite S. Early examples used Honda’s older horizontal 50cc two-stroke layout, while later updates kept the same basic commuter formula but refreshed the styling and mechanical package enough to keep the line current through the 1990s. For 1992, Honda began shifting U.S. badging from LX to SR on some versions, and by the mid-1990s the line saw a major mechanical update with the newer vertical AF16E engine. The scooter remained in the catalog through the 2001 model year, which marked the end of its long run. Enthusiasts remember it as one of Honda’s more recognizable small scooters of the late 1980s and 1990s, combining approachable step-through packaging with enough character and parts interchangeability to maintain a loyal following long after production ended.
