MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the TRX450ES

Honda introduced this FourTrax Foreman ES for the 1998 model year as part of its mid-size utility ATV lineup, and the nameplate ran through the 2001 model year. It was positioned as a hardworking farm, ranch, and trail machine rather than a sport ATV, with Honda’s Electric Shift Program giving riders push-button gear changes that were a key part of the model’s identity. That feature helped separate it from simpler utility quads of the era and made the machine especially approachable for users who wanted convenience without giving up a traditional manual-style drivetrain.

The model arrived during a period when Honda was steadily expanding the FourTrax family around practical, durable four-wheel ATVs. In that context, the Foreman ES represented the brand’s move toward more refined utility machines with better ergonomics and easier operation, while still emphasizing the rugged, work-oriented character Honda buyers expected. It was part of the early generation of Honda utility ATVs that helped establish the Foreman name as one of the company’s most recognizable off-road nameplates.

This nameplate had a single continuous production run and was later replaced by newer Foreman models rather than revived under the same exact designation.
