MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the CRF70F

Introduced for the 2004 model year, this small-displacement off-road Honda was aimed at young riders and beginners who had outgrown the smallest mini bike in the family. It was positioned as a step-up machine: larger and more capable than the entry-level version, but still designed to be approachable, easy to manage, and confidence-inspiring for newer riders. Honda presented it alongside the rest of its youth-oriented off-road lineup as part of the expanding CRF family, giving the model the same aggressive styling cues as the company’s full-size motocross machines.

The bike used a simple four-stroke single-cylinder layout with an automatic centrifugal clutch and a three-speed transmission, reflecting its focus on easy operation rather than racing performance. Its off-road chassis and small-wheel format made it well suited to casual trail use, learning, and family recreation. For many riders, it became a familiar “middle” step in Honda’s mini off-road ladder, bridging the gap between the smallest youth model and the larger beginner bikes.

Production ran through the 2012 model year. For 2013, Honda replaced it with the CRF110F, marking the end of this particular nameplate’s original run. The model remains notable as one of the best-known Honda youth trail bikes of the 2000s and early 2010s, and as an important part of the CRF brand’s move beyond motocross into accessible recreational off-road machines.
