Honda introduced this adventure-oriented dual-purpose motorcycle in 1986 as a versatile middleweight built to handle commuting, touring, and light off-pavement riding. It became known for combining road-friendly comfort with a rugged, go-anywhere character, and it was notable as one of Honda’s early dual-purpose models to use a fairing for better high-speed comfort on longer rides. The model established the Transalp identity: practical, manageable, and aimed at riders who wanted one motorcycle to do a little of everything without feeling overly specialized. Over the years it evolved within a single continuous production run, but it remained rooted in the same basic concept rather than being replaced by a completely different machine. Honda then moved the nameplate forward with the next-generation version introduced for 2000, which effectively ended this original run. Among enthusiasts, it is remembered as the foundational Transalp and a formative example of Honda’s adventure-touring approach.
