MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the ST1100

Honda introduced this long-distance sport-touring motorcycle for the 1990 model year, and it quickly became one of the brand’s most recognizable large touring machines. In many markets it was sold as the Pan-European, reflecting its intended role as a refined, cross-continent touring bike rather than a pure sport machine. The model combined substantial weather protection, integrated luggage-friendly touring design, and a sophisticated V4 layout that gave it a distinctive place in Honda’s lineup between lighter sport-touring bikes and the larger Gold Wing family.

Over its run, the nameplate evolved steadily rather than being completely reinvented. Honda added motorcycle-specific ABS in the early 1990s, then introduced more advanced linked-braking and ABS systems in the mid-1990s, turning the bike into an important technical showcase for the company’s large-displacement touring segment. By the early 2000s, the ST1100 had established a reputation for durability, long-range comfort, and serious all-weather use. It was ultimately superseded by the ST1300 in the next model year, closing a production run that spanned the 1990s and early 2000s.
