The Story of the ADV150

Honda introduced this adventure-styled scooter as a fresh interpretation of the small-displacement commuter, expanding the company’s scooter lineup with tougher styling and more versatile road manners than a conventional step-through. The model first appeared publicly as a planned production vehicle at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, then reached the Japanese market for the 2020 model year with Honda positioning it as a practical everyday scooter that also borrowed the visual language of dual-purpose and adventure motorcycles.

The nameplate followed the concept established by Honda’s larger adventure-oriented machines, but translated it into a lightweight urban format. Its appeal was less about outright performance than about combining step-through convenience, touring-friendly equipment, and a more upright, go-anywhere appearance. That made it stand out among mainstream scooters and gave it a distinct identity in Honda’s lineup, especially for riders who wanted a commuter with a more rugged character.

Honda continued the nameplate with updates during its run, including special color treatments, but the model’s life in Japan was relatively short. In late 2022 Honda announced that the machine would be fully revised and rebadged as the ADV160 for the 2023 model year, marking the end of the original 150cc version’s continuous production run. As a result, the original nameplate remained a single-generation model in Honda’s history rather than a revived or repeatedly discontinued line.
