MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the SXS1000S (Talon 1000)

Honda’s Talon 1000 nameplate arrived for the 2019 model year as the brand’s first dedicated sport side-by-side family. It was introduced as an all-new off-road platform built around Honda’s 999cc twin-cylinder engine and automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission, with the initial lineup focused on two-seat sport models tuned for different kinds of terrain. The Talon quickly established Honda’s entry in the high-performance SxS market by combining the company’s drivetrain expertise with a chassis and suspension package aimed at aggressive trail and desert use.

The nameplate expanded beyond the original two-seat machines soon after launch, growing into four-seat variants that carried the Talon formula to riders who wanted more passenger capacity without moving away from the sport-oriented character of the original models. Over time, the family developed into multiple trims and performance grades, including versions with electronically controlled suspension, while keeping the core Talon identity centered on quick handling, rugged construction, and Honda’s distinctive automatic transmission technology.

Unlike some long-running Honda nameplates, Talon 1000 does not appear to have a prior production era before its 2019 introduction, and there is no verified discontinuation and revival cycle in the record. It remains a relatively recent addition to Honda’s off-road lineup and is notable as the company’s modern flagship sport SxS series, rather than a legacy model adapted from earlier utility or ATV architecture.
