MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the 3.2 Mondial

Introduced for the 1985 model year, this was the updated second-generation evolution of Ferrari’s Mondial 2+2 range. It followed the earlier Mondial 8 and brought a more refined presentation, including revised exterior lighting, a tidier and more ergonomic interior, and improved overall finish. Ferrari positioned it as a usable four-seat mid-engine grand touring car rather than a pure sports car, aiming to combine everyday practicality with the character expected of a Prancing Horse.

In Ferrari’s history, this version sits at the midpoint of the Mondial family’s development. It kept the same basic formula that made the line distinctive: a transverse V8 mounted behind the cabin, Pininfarina styling, and the rare combination of true rear seats with a mid-engine layout. For enthusiasts, it represents the most polished expression of the original Mondial concept before the model was reworked again.

The nameplate remained in production through 1989, when Ferrari replaced it with the Mondial t. That later update marked a separate evolution in the line, but the 3.2 version itself was a single continuous production run from 1985 to 1989.
