The Story of the F12 Special Series

Introduced in 2015, this was Ferrari’s second special-series V12 berlinetta and a limited-edition performance variant of the F12berlinetta. It was created as a more extreme, track-focused interpretation of Ferrari’s front-engined V12 formula, while still remaining a road car. The name pays tribute to the Tour de France, the endurance road race that Ferrari cars famously dominated in the 1950s and 1960s, tying the car directly to one of the marque’s most celebrated competitive eras.

This model arrived as part of Ferrari’s modern Special Series tradition, which had previously produced cars such as the 599 GTO. In Ferrari’s own history, it is presented as the 2015 entry in that lineage and as the successor to earlier special-series V12 projects. The car was not a new platform or a separate mainstream line, but a limited-production expression of the F12berlinetta concept, with a stronger emphasis on lightweight construction, sharper dynamics, and exclusivity.

Production ran as a single, finite series and finished in 2017. That makes it a brief but important chapter in Ferrari’s recent V12 history, bridging the F12berlinetta era and the later 812 Competizione family. Among enthusiasts, it is remembered as one of the most desirable modern Ferrari special editions, both for its connection to a famous racing name and for its role in defining Ferrari’s contemporary special-series strategy.
