Ferrari’s Monza SP1/SP2 was introduced in September 2018 as the debut model line for the brand’s Icona concept, a limited-series family designed to reinterpret famous Ferrari sports racers from the company’s past. The nameplate was inspired by Ferrari’s open-top barchettas of the 1950s, especially the 166 MM and the Monza racing cars that helped shape the marque’s competition identity. The Monza project was presented as a special collector-focused model rather than a regular-production road car, with two related body styles offered: the single-seat SP1 and the two-seat SP2.
Deliveries began in 2019, making that the first model year for the nameplate. Ferrari described the Monza SP1/SP2 as the first cars in the Icona series, and the model quickly became a reference point for the company’s modern limited-edition strategy. It combined a highly stylized open-cockpit format with contemporary Ferrari engineering, but its significance lies primarily in how it translated classic Ferrari motorsport themes into a modern, low-volume production car.
The Monza SP1/SP2 remained in the catalog through the early 2020s as part of Ferrari’s limited-series output, with Ferrari stating in 2021 that shipments were approaching the end of production and later confirming that the run would be completed in the first quarter of 2022. As a result, the nameplate had a single continuous production period with no revival or second era. Enthusiast interest has remained strong because it marked the start of Ferrari’s Icona chapter and because the two configurations gave customers a rare choice between the purity of the single-seat SP1 and the more social SP2 layout.
