MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the SuperBike

Ducati’s modern Superbike family was formally launched in 2012 with the 1199 Panigale, which the company described as the opening of a new chapter in its Superbike history. That model replaced the earlier 1198-era superbike approach with a fresh generation of flagship, track-focused road machines, and the line has continued through successive Panigale and Panigale V4 generations. Ducati now presents the current Panigale V4 as the seventh generation in its superbike saga, underscoring that this is a living nameplate rather than a discontinued one. Although the modern family began in 2012, Ducati’s superbike identity reaches back much further through landmark machines such as the 851, 888, 916, 999 and 1098, which helped define the brand’s reputation in both road performance and WorldSBK racing. The SuperBike name therefore represents Ducati’s long-running flagship sports-bike tradition, with the Panigale era carrying that heritage into the present day.
