MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the M620

Introduced for the 2002 model year, this entry-level Monster brought Ducati’s naked-bike formula to a wider audience by fitting the smaller Monster line with a larger 620 cc engine and electronic fuel injection. It was part of the second wave of Monster evolution, arriving after the original 900/600/750-era machines and alongside broader updates across the range that modernized the chassis and handling. In Ducati’s own chronology, the 620 became the stepping stone model for riders who wanted the classic Monster look and character in a more approachable package. The machine fit neatly into the brand’s early-2000s strategy of expanding the Monster family into multiple displacements and trims, helping sustain the line’s position as one of Ducati’s most important and best-known nameplates. In 2007, Ducati replaced the 620 at the entry point of the range with the Monster 695, marking the end of the 620’s continuous production run. The nameplate did not return in a later revival, so its history is a single, uninterrupted period from 2002 through 2006 model years.
