MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the 900SSCR/900SSSP

Ducati’s 900SS CR/SP belongs to the early-1990s revival of the SuperSport line, which brought the company’s air-cooled 900cc two-valve twin back into mainstream production after the earlier bevel-drive era. In North American market references, the 900SS CR and 900SS SP appear from model year 1994, with the CR representing the half-faired road version and the SP identifying the sport-oriented production variant. Government registration references show both 900SS CR and 900SS SP in 1994 and 1995, 900SS CR and SP in 1997, and 900SS CR still listed in 1998. That places the family’s continuous run in the mid-to-late 1990s, before Ducati moved on to later Supersport generations. The model is remembered as one of the defining Ducati twins of its era: practical enough for the street, but visually and mechanically rooted in the company’s racing-led supersport tradition.
