The Story of the DB12

Aston Martin introduced the DB12 in May 2023 as the first of its next-generation sportscars and the latest chapter in the company’s long-running DB bloodline. Although unveiled in 2023, it entered the market as a 2024 model year car, making 2024 the first model year for this exact nameplate. The DB12 was positioned as a major step beyond the DB11 and as Aston Martin’s new flagship grand-touring coupe, with the later Volante extending the line into open-top form.

The DB12 matters because it marked a clear shift in Aston Martin’s core GT formula. The company described it as the world’s first “Super Tourer,” emphasizing a broader blend of performance, refinement, luxury, and driver-focused technology than the traditional grand tourer label usually implies. It also launched a new era for the brand’s design and cabin direction, including an all-new interior layout and Aston Martin’s first in-house infotainment system.

In enthusiast terms, the DB12 is significant not because it abandoned Aston Martin’s character, but because it reinterpreted it for a new generation. It retained the classic front-engine, two-door, 2+2 Aston Martin layout, but with a more assertive body, a wider and more muscular stance, and a sharper dynamic brief than its predecessor. The DB12 also arrived at an important moment for the DB family, following 75 years of DB-badged road cars and serving as the opening model in Aston Martin’s updated core range.

DB12 remains in production, so there is no final model year yet.
