Aston Martin’s Lagonda nameplate is one of the most distinctive luxury saloons of the late 20th century. Introduced in 1976, it was a bold four-door flagship designed by William Towns that pushed Aston Martin into highly unconventional territory with its sharply wedge-shaped body and futuristic digital instrumentation. The car was aimed at an ultra-luxury clientele and quickly became a talking point for its striking styling as much as for its exclusivity.
The Lagonda’s early production was slow, with deliveries beginning only after the launch year, and the model gained particular attention in export markets, especially the Middle East. Over time Aston Martin expanded the line with special body styles, including a long-wheelbase Tickford limousine variant and other coachbuilt interpretations. In 1987, the car received a notable update that softened and modernized the original Towns design, giving it a fresher appearance while retaining its dramatic character.
Production of the Aston Martin Lagonda ended in 1990, after a comparatively small total build. It remains an enthusiast favorite and a landmark in Aston Martin history for its audacious styling, experimental technology, and role as the brand’s most radical luxury sedan of its era.
