MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the RS 660

The Aprilia RS 660 arrived as a new-generation middleweight sportbike and went on sale as a 2021 model, marking a deliberate return to the RS family’s lightweight, road-friendly supersport formula. Rather than chasing the outright character of Aprilia’s larger RSV4, the RS 660 was positioned to bring real-world usability together with sharp chassis design, aerodynamic bodywork and electronics that were unusual in its class at launch. Aprilia presented it as a fresh interpretation of sport riding, aimed at riders who wanted a compact, high-performance motorcycle that could work both on the street and on track.

The nameplate is tied to Aprilia’s 660 platform, which became important to the brand’s modern lineup. The RS 660 was the first of the family to reach production and helped establish the twin-cylinder engine and lightweight aluminum chassis concept as a core part of Aprilia’s strategy. Its styling carried clear family resemblance to the RSV4 and later adopted race-inspired aerodynamic elements, reinforcing the model’s link to Aprilia’s competition identity.

Over time, the RS 660 evolved from a single model into a small subfamily. Aprilia later introduced special and track-oriented derivatives such as the RS 660 Trofeo, along with the more premium RS 660 Factory, which adds higher-spec components and a sharper enthusiast focus. Even with those variants, the RS 660 itself has remained the central street model in the lineup.

In enthusiast terms, the RS 660 stands out because it helped define the modern lightweight sportbike space for a major European manufacturer. It combined contemporary electronics, practical ergonomics and aggressive styling in a package that felt distinct from both entry-level sportbikes and liter-class superbikes. The model has continued in production, so there is no final model year to record at this time.
