The Story of the Tiger 800

Triumph’s middleweight adventure nameplate arrived for the 2011 model year, bringing the Tiger badge into a new era with the Tiger 800 family. It marked Triumph’s move into the modern parallel-twin/triple-powered adventure class, aimed at riders wanting a versatile machine that could handle commuting, touring, and light off-road use. Early on, the range established a split personality: road-oriented versions sat alongside more dirt-capable variants, giving the model broad appeal without abandoning the Tiger identity. Triumph’s own history materials describe the Tiger 800 as the bike that redefined its middleweight adventure direction, and later accessory and connectivity materials show the nameplate continuing through the MY18–MY19 cycle before the range was replaced by the Tiger 900 for 2020. The Tiger 800 therefore represents a single continuous production run, running from the 2011 model year through 2019. Enthusiasts remember it as the Tiger that modernized Triumph’s adventure line before the next-generation 900 arrived, and as the foundation for the brand’s later road-focused and off-road-focused adventure strategies.
