Triumph revived the Thruxton name for the modern era with an all-new 1200cc café racer that reached showrooms for the 2016 model year as the Thruxton R. It followed the earlier Thruxton 900 and marked a more performance-focused chapter for the brand’s classic family, using a substantially updated chassis, premium suspension and Brembo braking to give the bike the handling expected of a serious road-going café racer. The model was positioned as the sharper, more focused counterpart to Triumph’s other Bonneville-based classics, pairing retro styling with contemporary engineering. For 2019, Triumph evolved the line into the Thruxton RS, making the R the earlier 1200cc version of this modern Thruxton generation. The 1200R therefore represents a single, continuous production run from its 2016 introduction through the 2018 model year before being replaced by the RS.
