The Story of the Rocket 3 R

This nameplate returned in Triumph’s 2019 Rocket 3 revival as the roadster-oriented member of the new Rocket family, alongside the touring-focused GT. Triumph presented the model year 2019 Rocket 3 R and GT as the start of a new generation, built around the brand’s largest production motorcycle engine and a heavily revised aluminum chassis. The bike carried forward the Rocket idea of a huge, charismatic triple-powered roadster, but with modern electronics, updated handling hardware, and a far more refined overall package than the earlier Rocket III.

The model quickly became the performance-focused choice in the range: the R emphasized a more aggressive riding position and stripped-back muscle-bike attitude, while the GT offered a more relaxed touring setup. Over the next few model years Triumph kept refining the platform with special editions and incremental updates, but the core identity remained the same: a distinctive, high-capacity British muscle roadster centered on torque, presence, and effortless road performance.

For MY25, Triumph replaced the Rocket 3 R nameplate with the Rocket 3 Storm R, marking the end of the original R-badged run rather than a separate revival. As a result, the Rocket 3 R is best understood as a 2019–2024 production-era model that bridged Triumph’s historic Rocket III legacy into the modern Rocket 3 family.
