MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Thunderbird LT

This nameplate was introduced for the 2014 model year as a luxury touring derivative of Triumph’s modern large-displacement cruiser line. It was positioned as the more road-trip-oriented sibling in the Thunderbird family, with factory equipment and styling aimed at long-distance comfort and a classic American-inspired look rather than stripped-down cruiser minimalism. Triumph launched it alongside the Commander as part of its expanded Thunderbird range, giving the model a clear place at the top end of the brand’s cruiser offering in the Hinckley era. The motorcycle used the Thunderbird platform’s liquid-cooled parallel-twin architecture, but was distinguished by touring-focused bodywork, a larger screen, whitewall tires on some versions, and integrated luggage support that made it more practical for two-up travel. The nameplate remained in Triumph’s lineup through the 2017 model year and then disappeared from the brand’s catalog, making this a single continuous production run with no known revival to date.
