MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Bonneville Speedmaster

This modern British custom cruiser was introduced for the 2018 model year as part of Triumph’s revived Bonneville family. It was presented as a contemporary interpretation of the laid-back cruiser idea, combining classic styling cues with modern chassis, braking, and electronics technology. The design language leans heavily on traditional custom-bike proportions: a low, relaxed silhouette, flowing twin exhausts, heritage-inspired badging, and a strong emphasis on comfort for two-up riding and long-distance use.

Although the 2018 motorcycle is the current Bonneville-branded form of the nameplate, its roots reach back to Triumph’s earlier Speedmaster cruiser, which first appeared in 2002 and evolved through subsequent updates before the later Bonneville revival. That earlier lineage helps explain the model’s place in the brand’s modern classic range: it is not a retro sport bike or a stripped bobber, but a cruiser with a more touring-friendly personality and a distinctly British take on custom style.

The 2018 launch marked the start of a new generation built on Triumph’s modern Bonneville platform, bringing the model into the contemporary era while preserving the easygoing character that made the original cruiser concept appealing. It has since remained part of the brand’s modern classic lineup as one of the more comfort-oriented, laid-back interpretations of the Bonneville theme.
