Suzuki’s 800cc Intruder was introduced in 1993 as a larger evolution of the earlier VS750 Intruder. The nameplate built on the brand’s chopper-style cruiser formula, keeping the long, low silhouette and relaxed riding position that defined the original Intruder while moving the model up in displacement and refinement. Suzuki’s own history notes that the 800 was created by enlarging the cylinders of the 750, giving the bike a bigger liquid-cooled V-twin and a more substantial full-size cruiser presence.
Compared with the 750, the 800 emphasized a more polished look, with additional chrome, fewer plastic parts, and a more elegant overall finish. It was positioned as a comfortable, easy-to-own cruiser rather than a stripped-down custom, and its design favored traditional American-style cruiser proportions over sport-bike performance. That formula helped establish the Intruder 800 as one of Suzuki’s key large-displacement cruisers of the 1990s.
The 800cc Intruder line later evolved into related variants and naming changes within Suzuki’s cruiser range, but the original Intruder 800 nameplate itself began in 1993 and was part of Suzuki’s cruiser lineup through the 2004 model year.
