Phantom

The Phantom nameplate began in 1925 with Phantom I, introduced as the "New Phantom" to supersede the Silver Ghost and establish Rolls-Royce’s highest expression of luxury and refinement. Through the pre-war and post-war eras, Phantom evolved through multiple generations, including the celebrated coachbuilt Phantom II, III, IV, V and VI. That first long run effectively ended in the early 1990s, when Phantom VI left production and the traditional body-on-chassis coachbuilding era at Rolls-Royce drew to a close. After more than a decade without a Phantom in the modern lineup, the nameplate returned in 2003 with Phantom VII, marking the start of the Goodwood era for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The current generation, Phantom VIII, was presented in 2017 and continues the model’s role as the marque’s flagship. Across its history, Phantom has remained the brand’s most prestigious and influential model, associated with formal luxury, royal and state use, bespoke coachwork, and a strong cultural presence in the worlds of politics, music and celebrity. Because the nameplate was discontinued after the Phantom VI era and later revived for a new production period in 2003, it is best treated as a model with multiple separate production periods rather than one uninterrupted run.
