Silver Spur

The long-wheelbase Silver Spur was introduced as Rolls-Royce’s chauffeur-oriented companion to the Silver Spirit, sharing the new SZ-generation mechanical package and broader modern body style that replaced the Silver Shadow in 1980. It carried the traditional Rolls-Royce formula into a more contemporary era: a formal four-door saloon with extra rear-seat space, restrained styling, and an emphasis on quiet isolation rather than overt performance. Over time, the Silver Spur evolved through several updates that mirrored the Silver Spirit’s development, including later Series II and Series III versions and the final “New Silver Spur” refinement. In markets such as North America, it became the long-wheelbase expression of the marque’s flagship saloon for owners who preferred to be driven. The nameplate remained part of the Rolls-Royce lineup until the end of the SZ family in 1998, when it was replaced by the Silver Seraph era.
