KTM used the Racing nameplate as a special off-road designation on several factory-style enduro and motocross models in the early-to-mid 2000s, rather than as a single standalone street model. The name appears in KTM’s own parts documentation by model year 2001, with examples such as Racing-labeled EXC and MXC variants already listed in the company’s spare parts catalog. Over the following years, KTM continued to apply the suffix across different displacements and regional versions, including 250, 400, 450, 520 and 525 EXC-family machines, reflecting the brand’s racing-focused off-road identity during that era. By 2006 and 2007, the designation was still in use on KTM’s enduro line, alongside related special-edition and competition-oriented variants. After that period, KTM’s naming strategy shifted more toward distinct model families and special editions such as EXC-F, Six Days and Factory Racing, and the Racing badge itself no longer appears as a separate contemporary nameplate in the same way. For enthusiasts, the Racing label is significant because it marks the period when KTM was clearly branding its competition-bred off-road bikes with a simple, direct suffix that signaled lighter, more race-oriented equipment and positioning compared with the standard trail-focused versions of the time.
