MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the 950/990 Adv

Introduced for the 2003 model year, this Adventure nameplate marked the debut of the LC8-powered large-displacement travel-enduro concept that helped define the modern big adventure bike. The early 950-version established the formula with a rugged rally-inspired chassis, long-travel suspension, and a focus on genuine off-road ability rather than pure touring comfort. For 2006, the line evolved into the 990 version, bringing a more developed road-and-trail package while retaining the same basic character and enthusiast following. Over the years it was offered in several market-specific forms, including standard, S, ABS, and special-edition variants, but it remained the same core model family. The final examples appeared in the early 2010s, with 2013 being the last model year for the line in some markets. Today it is remembered as one of the most influential adventure motorcycles of its era, especially among riders who value a lighter, more aggressive interpretation of the class.
