MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the SMC

KTM introduced this 690 cc LC4-based supermoto nameplate for the 2008 model year as a street-focused, rear-wheel-sliding single-cylinder machine. It sat in KTM’s supermoto lineup as the original road-going 690 variant before the later SMC R naming appeared on the successor generation. The model carried KTM’s lightweight, aggressive supermoto character and was offered in several markets during its run, with model-year listings appearing through 2011. KTM’s official parts and service documentation shows the nameplate for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, after which the regular SMC designation was replaced by the R-badged successor rather than continuing as the same model. For enthusiasts, the bike marks KTM’s first modern large-capacity supermoto street model in this family and established the template for the later 690 SMC R line.
