KTM’s electric Freeride off-road line reached production in model year 2014, when the E-XC joined the brand’s early e-mobility efforts as a light, low-noise, battery-powered trail bike. It was aimed at riders who wanted the handling and simplicity of a small off-road machine without the clutch, gearbox, or exhaust of a conventional enduro. KTM later refreshed the concept for model year 2018 with a second-generation version, keeping the same core identity but updating the chassis and electrical package to improve usability and range. That revised version carried the nameplate through subsequent model years and kept the Freeride E-XC visible in KTM’s lineup as one of the brand’s best-known electric motorcycles. The model remained in KTM’s catalog through model year 2023, after which the E-XC nameplate was retired and replaced by a different electric Freeride naming scheme. Within KTM history, it stands out as one of the company’s longest-running electric motorcycle nameplates and an important bridge between experimental e-mobility and production off-road electrification.
