MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the VT600 (Shadow VLX Deluxe)

This Honda cruiser joined the Shadow lineup in 1993 as the upscale 600-class version of the VLX family, marketed with added chrome and more dressy trim than the standard sibling. It carried the familiar Shadow formula of a low-slung V-twin cruiser, aimed at riders who wanted classic American-inspired styling in a manageable middleweight package rather than a full-size heavyweight machine. In Honda’s U.S. market naming, the Deluxe badge identified the more richly appointed variant within the VT600 range, and it remained closely associated with the VLX identity throughout its run.

The model became especially well known as an approachable entry into cruiser ownership. Compared with larger Shadows, it emphasized compact proportions, light feel, and easy customization potential, which helped it build a loyal following among new riders and long-time Honda fans alike. Over the years it kept the same basic identity while receiving the usual annual updates in color and trim, with the Deluxe version distinguished by extra brightwork and appearance touches that gave it a more finished showroom look.

Production continued through the 2007 model year, making this one of the longer-running 600cc Shadow variants. It did not disappear and return in a separate later revival; instead, it followed a continuous production run before Honda moved on to newer Shadow family directions. As a result, the model is remembered as a straightforward, long-lived Japanese cruiser that helped define Honda’s smaller Shadow lineup for well over a decade.
