Honda introduced this nameplate in the mid-2000s as an off-road, competition-trail derivative of its CRF250R motocrosser. It was developed for riders who wanted race-bred handling and power delivery with more trail-friendly equipment, including electric starting, wide-ratio gearing, and chassis and suspension tuning aimed at enduro and cross-country use. In Honda’s off-road lineup, it occupied the space between pure motocross machines and more recreational trail bikes, and it became a familiar choice for riders looking for a lightweight, 250cc four-stroke platform with serious dirt credentials. The model remained in Honda’s U.S. line through the 2017 model year, after which the nameplate left the regular lineup.
