Honda’s 500-class TRX ATV nameplate entered the market in 2000 with the TRX500FA FourTrax Rubicon, a utility-focused North American ATV that became known for Honda’s Hondamatic/HFT automatic transmission technology. The Rubicon established the TRX500 family as a work-oriented, high-capability ATV rather than a pure sport machine, and Honda’s own history materials note its introduction as a milestone for the company’s automatic-transmission development. Over time, the TRX500 designation expanded beyond the original Rubicon to include Foreman-based utility variants, reflecting Honda’s approach of using the 500-class platform across multiple rec/utility trims and transmission layouts. By the mid-2010s, Honda literature still referenced TRX500 Foreman and Rubicon models, but the nameplate was later superseded in Honda’s lineup by newer 4x4 ATV families, including the TRX520 Foreman and the Rubicon 700. The TRX500 is therefore best understood as Honda’s long-running 500-class utility ATV family of the 2000s and early 2010s, with the Rubicon as its foundational and historically most significant member.
