This nameplate traces back to Harley-Davidson’s 1984 introduction of the FXST, the first Softail model to bring the brand’s hidden-rear-suspension hardtail look into production. It became the entry point to the Softail family and established the stripped-down, classic cruiser formula that would define the line for years. The model continued through the Softail era in various forms, then disappeared from the lineup for a period before returning for the 2020 model year. The revived version kept the original concept alive as a minimalist, bobber-style Big Twin aimed at riders who wanted the essential Harley-Davidson cruiser experience with a clean canvas for customization.
