MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the FXRC

This factory-custom FXR variant was introduced for the 1985 model year as a dressed-up Low Glide Custom version of Harley-Davidson’s then-new FXR platform. It arrived during the period when the FXR line was helping define Harley’s more modern Big Twin direction, combining the company’s rubber-mounted chassis concepts with the Evolution-era powertrain and a sportier, more disciplined riding character than many earlier big twins. The nameplate was used on a limited, distinctive run rather than as a long-lived core model, and it was offered in the mid-1980s through the 1987 model year.

The model is remembered as one of the more collectible FXR derivatives because it sat at the intersection of performance and factory customization. Period references describe it as a low-glide/custom treatment with distinctive paint and bright trim, giving it a more expressive showroom look than the standard FXR variants. In Harley-Davidson’s own 1987–1990 parts catalog, the 1987 version is called out with a model-unique listing, confirming that the designation remained in the lineup through that model year.

Among enthusiasts, this nameplate is best understood as a special-edition FXR rather than a separate motorcycle family. Its significance comes from its place in the early FXR story: a limited-run, style-focused machine that bridged the company’s traditional cruiser image and the more refined chassis philosophy that later made the FXR line so highly regarded.
