MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the FXFB / Fat Bob

The FXFB designation arrived for the 2018 model year as Harley-Davidson’s redesigned Softail Fat Bob, part of the brand’s major Softail chassis overhaul. Harley-Davidson described it as an all-new Fat Bob with a more aggressive, performance-oriented character, distinct from the earlier Dyna-era Fat Bob and built around the new Softail frame. That 2018 launch established the model’s modern identity: a stripped, muscular cruiser with a bold stance, inverted front forks, fat tires, and the distinctive 2-1-2 upswept exhaust that set it apart from more traditional Harley cruisers. The FXFB nameplate continued through the 2019 and 2020 model years in Harley-Davidson’s official documentation and parts catalogs. For 2021, Harley-Davidson’s owner documentation shows the Fat Bob line carried forward as the FXFBS 114, indicating the standard FXFB variant had reached the end of its continuous production run. Enthusiasts generally view the FXFB as the original, lighter-displacement version of the reimagined Softail Fat Bob introduced in the late 2010s, and as the model that defined the Fat Bob’s current aggressive styling direction.
