The Story of the FXBB / Street Bob

Harley-Davidson introduced this Softail-era Street Bob for the 2018 model year, moving the nameplate from the discontinued Dyna family onto the company’s redesigned Softail platform. The FXBB version arrived as a stripped-down, blacked-out factory bobber aimed at riders who wanted a minimalist cruiser with a more modern chassis and updated electronics, while still keeping the signature Street Bob attitude of mini-ape bars, chopped bodywork, and an intentionally simple look. For 2018, Harley-Davidson presented it as an all-new Street Bob, distinct from the earlier Dyna Street Bob that had carried the same name through the prior generation. The model continued the Street Bob’s core appeal as a customizable, no-frills Harley with a strong emphasis on raw style and straightforward street riding. Over time, it evolved within the Softail lineup and remained part of Harley-Davidson’s current cruiser range, with later updates reflecting the brand’s newer Milwaukee-Eight powertrains and contemporary rider technology. In Harley-Davidson’s lineup, the Street Bob has become one of the company’s clearest modern expressions of a bobber: lightweight in appearance, visually stripped back, and positioned as an accessible starting point for riders who want a factory custom feel without excess trim.
