MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Electra Glide Classic Shrine

This Harley-Davidson shrine-duty touring special appeared in the early 2000s as a factory-built ceremonial variant based on the Electra Glide full-dress touring platform. Harley-Davidson service documentation identifies the shrine version in the 2002 model-year Touring lineup, and the same shrine model-code listing continues through the 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 model years. It was positioned as a specialized, limited-use machine rather than a mainstream retail touring model, aimed at funeral and escort work where a dignified, fully dressed Harley with fairing, luggage, and touring amenities was appropriate. Over that run, the bike remained tied to the Electra Glide family’s classic batwing-fairing touring identity while carrying shrine-specific factory coding and trim. For 2007, Harley-Davidson shifted the shrine offering to the Ultra Classic Electra Glide naming, which marks the end of this exact classic-branded shrine run.
