MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Deluxe

This Harley-Davidson cruiser revived a classic badging idea for the modern Softail era when it appeared for the 2005 model year. The nameplate drew on the brand’s long-running taste for nostalgic styling, but it was positioned as a distinct factory-built boulevard motorcycle rather than a custom conversion. Its look was defined by full fenders, lots of bright trim, wide whitewall tires, a low stance, and a traditional dresser-inspired front end that gave it a vintage profile with contemporary reliability underneath.

The model’s identity stayed tied to the FLSTN designation for its entire run, even as Harley-Davidson updated the Softail platform around it. Early versions used the Evolution-based Softail architecture, while later editions moved onto the redesigned Softail chassis and the Milwaukee-Eight era. Those changes modernized the ride and engineering, but the visual theme remained consistent: a laid-back cruiser aimed at riders who wanted old-school Harley styling without going fully into touring-bike territory.

In Harley-Davidson’s lineup, this nameplate sat in the nostalgic corner of the Softail family, alongside other heritage-minded cruisers, and it became known as one of the brand’s most clearly retro-flavored production motorcycles. After the 2020 model year, the nameplate disappeared from the regular lineup, making that final year the end of its continuous production run.
