MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the Sidecar for FLHT FLTH/I

Harley-Davidson’s factory sidecar offering for FLHT-family touring motorcycles appeared in the early 1990s, with parts-catalog documentation showing FLHTC/I sidecar fitments beginning in 1993. The sidecar line was developed as a matched accessory for the company’s big Touring-platform bikes, using dedicated mounting hardware, steering-damper pieces, and sidecar-specific chassis components rather than a universal add-on. Over time, Harley-Davidson revised the attachment kits and sidecar equipment, but the underlying concept remained the same: a factory-engineered sidecar solution for touring models, especially the FLHT and related FLT-family machines. The model line later evolved into the TLE and TLE-Ultra sidecar family, which continued to carry the Harley-Davidson sidecar tradition forward for Touring motorcycles.
