MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide 5 / CVO Ultra Classic Ltd

Harley-Davidson introduced the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide as part of its factory Custom Vehicle Operations lineup for the 2006 model year. It sat at the top of the touring range as a premium, limited-production version of the Ultra Classic Electra Glide, combining long-distance touring equipment with distinctive paint, trim, and CVO-specific components. Over the next several model years, the nameplate returned annually as a numbered CVO touring special, with internal model codes changing from year to year while the marketed identity remained the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide.

The nameplate is best understood as the first generation of Harley-Davidson’s modern factory-custom heavyweight touring formula: a fully dressed Electra Glide-based machine elevated with more exclusive styling and features than the standard showroom touring models. It became a recognized enthusiast model because it represented the brand’s most ornate, high-spec bagger before the CVO touring lineup evolved into later naming conventions.

For the 2014 model year, Harley-Davidson replaced the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide era with the CVO Limited, ending the original nameplate’s continuous run. As a result, the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide is generally associated with the 2006 through 2013 model years, when it served as one of the signature annual CVO touring motorcycles.
