MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the CVO Road Glide

Harley-Davidson introduced this CVO Road Glide nameplate for the 2009 model year as a limited-production Custom Vehicle Operations bagger based on the then-new Road Glide touring platform. It was positioned as a premium, factory-custom version of the Sharknose-fairing touring model, with CVO-specific paint, trim, and equipment aimed at riders who wanted a more exclusive long-distance Harley straight from the showroom. After the early run, the Road Glide-based CVO lineup shifted into other naming variants, including CVO Road Glide Ultra and CVO Road Glide Custom, before the CVO Road Glide name itself returned in the late 2010s. That revival carried the nameplate forward onto Harley-Davidson’s newer touring architecture and kept it in the company’s current CVO family. Because the nameplate has appeared in separate production periods rather than one uninterrupted run, the historical record is best treated as a revived model rather than a single continuous series.
