LTD

The LTD began in 1965 as Ford’s upscale Galaxie 500 LTD and became a standalone full-size Ford for 1966. It spent much of the 1960s and 1970s as Ford’s traditional big-car flagship, with the nameplate reflecting the era’s move toward more luxurious, better-equipped mainstream sedans. For 1983, Ford split the full-size line into the LTD Crown Victoria and related derivatives, while the LTD badge moved to a smaller intermediate car. That smaller LTD carried the name through the 1986 model year, after which Ford replaced it with the Taurus.
