This open-top 308 nameplate emerged in 1977 as a targa-roof companion to the fixed-roof 308 Berlinetta, created with Pininfarina to deliver open-air driving without moving to a full soft-top layout. It kept the mid-mounted V8 sports-car formula that made the 308 family so important to the marque, and it quickly became the best-known expression of the series thanks to its blend of exotic styling, compact dimensions, and everyday usability by Ferrari standards. Over its life it evolved through several technical phases, including carbureted, injected, and quattrovalvole versions, reflecting changing emissions rules and the brand’s effort to preserve performance. The nameplate remained in production through the early and mid-1980s and was ultimately superseded in 1985 by the 328 GTS. As a result, it stands as one of the defining open-top V8 Ferraris of the analog era and a major part of the company’s late-20th-century sports-car identity.
