MODEL HISTORY

The Story of the 296 Speciale

Introduced in April 2025, this special-series Ferrari is a more focused, track-oriented evolution of the 296 GTB. It continues Ferrari’s long tradition of limited-run driver’s cars that reinterpret a standard berlinetta with sharper responses, lighter construction, and a stronger emphasis on engagement. In that lineage, it sits alongside landmark special versions such as the Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale and 488 Pista, which helped define Ferrari’s modern “Speciale” formula.

The model is positioned as a higher-intensity expression of the 296 family rather than a separate platform. Ferrari describes it as drawing heavily on motorsport know-how, including lessons from the 296 GT3 and 296 Challenge race cars, along with development influence from Formula 1 and the Le Mans-winning 499P. The result is a road car that emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency, weight reduction and chassis precision while retaining the mid-rear-engined hybrid layout that made the 296 range significant in Ferrari’s road-car history.

As a nameplate, it marks Ferrari’s ongoing use of the Speciale badge to identify the most emotionally focused version of a production sports car. Because it was newly launched in 2025 and remains part of Ferrari’s active lineup, it should be treated as an ongoing model rather than a discontinued one.
