Ferrari’s 488 nameplate arrived for the 2015 model year as the successor to the 458-era mid-rear V8 line, beginning with the 488 GTB coupe and 488 Spider. It marked a new chapter for Ferrari’s turbocharged V8 road cars and quickly became the core designation for a broader family of related cars rather than a single body style. In 2018, Ferrari expanded the line with the 488 Pista and 488 Pista Spider, higher-performance special-series derivatives aimed at more focused driving. The final 488-badged Ferrari appeared in 2020 with the track-only 488 GT Modificata, a limited model derived from Ferrari’s GT racing program. After that, Ferrari moved on to the F8 generation for its mainstream mid-engine V8 road cars, while the 488 badge remained associated with the family’s road, special-series, and competition variants from 2015 through 2020.
